Tomahawk allegedly used in rampage

A COUPLE who allegedly smashed a house and car in a tomahawk revenge rampage were denied bail in Bundaberg Magistrates Court yesterday.

A COUPLE who allegedly smashed a house and car in a tomahawk revenge rampage were denied bail in Bundaberg Magistrates Court yesterday.

Troy Allen Drews, 31, and Rebecca Lee O'Connor, 22, are alleged to have gone to the home of a couple they had drug-related connections with, demanding money on June 17 this year.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Robyn Shapcott told the court the pair went to the victim's home about 11am but were refused entry.

The pair began punching the front door, before smashing the window of the victim's Holden Commodore sedan.

The male householder emerged from his home to protect his car, when he was allegedly confronted by O'Connor, who was swinging at him with a 30-inch-long tomahawk.

The court heard O'Connor chased the victim around his car before he went back inside.

“Drews then took the tomahawk and smashed glass windows at the front of the house,” Sgt Shapcott said.

The victims called police, who could hear further damage being done to the car and home.

Sgt Shapcott objected to Drews' and O'Connor's bail application, saying Drews had been calling the victims and making threats such as: “I want blood now” and “Payback's a bitch”.

“Both complainants fear retribution,” Sgt Shapcott said.

Defence lawyer Edwina Rowan said the defendants disputed that a tomahawk was used in the attack and said the threatening phone calls had been fabricated by the victims.

Magistrate Neil Lavaring denied the pair bail, causing O'Connor to cry and yell: “I don't want to go to jail.”.

Drews and O'Connor will reappear for mention on July 19.
