CINEPHILES can rejoice as Bundaberg Reading Cinemas is set to reopen tomorrow night after almost three weeks of renovations.
At a cost of about $1 million, the renovations will bring the four-screen cinema in line with its city counterparts with new leather seating, 7.1 surround sound and other technological boosts to improve the overall film experience
The cinema's manager Brent AbercrombieÖ said he couldn't wait to see the public's reaction.
"The seating is higher and more comfortable so you can see the screen better," he said.
"Cinemas one and two will have 3D and 7.1 surround sound."
Mr Abercrombie said cinema three would cater to both deaf and visually impaired patrons with closed caption dialogue and audio descriptive headphones.
"There are little screens that come out of the arm of the seat," he said.
"The headphones are for visually impaired people and will narrate what is happening on the screen."
Mr Abercrombie said the changes had been on his wish list for a long time.
"In the last year or two especially, we've had feedback that our cinemas were a little run down," he said.
"It's a nice feeling to know that that will no longer be the case."
With three out of four screens to be ready on Friday evening, Mr Abercrombie said that cinemagoers would be able to enjoy the latest films in the best environment.
"We have About Time opening as well as Captain Phillips starring Tom Hanks," he said.
The official reopening date coincides with the release of potentially one of the year's biggest blockbusters - Thor: The Dark World.
The sequel to the 2011 blockbuster sees returning Australian actor Chris Hemsworth in the titular role as the Norse god who must battle a new enemy that puts his adopted home of earth in danger.
Mr Abercrombie said he hopes the film was as warmly received by locals as the refurbished cinemas.
"We are back better than ever," he said.
