IT will be a bright morning in Bundaberg on Monday, with tv’s Sunrise crew coming to town for their breakfast show.
Kochie, Mel, Nat and Beretts will present their live show from the Bundaberg Botanical Gardens to congratulate the city on winning the Bega Cheese “What Is Your Town Famous For?” competition.
David Koch, more affectionately known as Kochie, said he was looking forward to his first trip to Bundaberg in more than 25 years.
“When I was growing up, we had holidays in Queensland,” he said.
“We’re looking forward to meeting all of the Bundaberg viewers.”
Kochie said each member of the crew was looking forward to experiencing different parts of Bundaberg.
“I’m a bit of a history buff, so I want to see the Hinkler Hall of Aviation,” he said.
“Mel was stunned that there were vineyards up there, so she wants to go see some of those. Beretts wants to go to the Bundaberg Rum factory and Nat loves nature, so she wants to go to the big open aviary. We each have our own interest.”
More than 100 Bundaberg businesses are members of the Sunrise Family Small Business Register.
“We have about 4500 businesses on the register so it’s great to see so many are from Bundaberg,” Kochie said.
“We have a real soft spot for Queensland. We have a wonderful bunch of viewers.”
The Bundaberg show, which was originally scheduled for March 19, was cancelled due to the looming Cyclone Ului.
“I said we shouldn’t be wimps and come anyway, but it would have been bad for all the gear we need to bring,” Kochie said.
“We want to show Bundy at its best.”
Kochie said the team was impressed with the entries for the competition.
“We could see that people there have an amazing community spirit,” he said.
Sunrise will be broadcast live from the botanical gardens from 5am until 8am.
