Works are well underway on the $3.6million Sugarland Plaza Bus Station on Takalvan Street.

Bundaberg MP Tom Smith said on Thursday the development was an investment to improve transportation services in the city.

“The new bus station will include a new two-bay platform, modern seating and sheltered waiting areas for those using the bus services,” he said.

A new signalised pedestrian crossing will also be put in at the shopping centre’s southern entrance.

Bus driver Chris Duffy from Duffy‘s Buses said on Thursday travel times would be reduced as a result of the developments.

“It’s going to help us immensely with time efficiencies,” Mr Duffy said.

“Currently we have to drive all the way through the back of the Sugarland shopping centre, sharing the facility with loading and unloading of trucks.

“There are people in Bundaberg that don’t realise that there is a bus service here, but by having this (new bus stop) along the main road will certainly help identify services.“

Construction on the two-bay bus station started in April, with works expected to be completed in late June 2022.
