TEENAGE sprinting sensation Torrie Lewis has sent shockwaves throughout the athletics world by mirroring the feats of one of Australia’s greatest track and field athletes.

Lewis‘s is only the third woman in history to achieve the 100/200m double at the age of 18, joining Glenys Beasley and Betty Cuthbert, the ‘Golden Girl’ of Australian athletics who won four Olympic gold medals.
Lewis’s performance in the 200m final was particularly impressive as she surged ahead of defending champion Ella Connelly in the final 15m to cross the finish line in a new personal best time of 23.02 seconds.
Reflecting on her win, Lewis admitted that she had not expected to do as well in the 200m race as she had in the 100m.
“For the 200 I didn’t really think too much about it,” said Lewis.
“I didn’t really feel fit enough, but the back end was strong so I was happy with that.”
With her impressive performances at the national championships, Lewis has now set her sights on qualifying for the World Athletics Championships in Budapest in August.
A European summer awaits her as she looks to improve her times and cement her place among the world’s best sprinters.
Joining Lewis as a young star claiming the golden double Callum Davies also took home the 1500m/5k double.

The young distance star from Queensland held off the challenge from James Hansen and Jack Bruce to take home his second gold medal of the championships, winning the 5000m race in one of the best performances of the event.
Davies, who only took the lead with just 100m left, showcased his impressive endurance and determination to clinch the win.
The medal would have been a bittersweet one for James Hansen from Tasmania, who was unable to contest the 1500m due to a cancelled flight.
