OPEN to newcomers and a community feel is how Moura Rangers Football Club president Adam Chater would describe his club.
This afternoon after school was sign-on day for the club which Chater said was revamped last year through the work of the parents and a passionate committee.
“Last year we rebranded the club and gave ourselves a new logo and rolled out merchandise,” Chater said.
“It really changed the vibe and we got more engagement and involvement from our parents.
“This year we have a really engaged committee that are keen to make a difference.”
Chater said there were plans to renovate and repaint the clubhouse to continue making the club a vibrant place with a sense of pride.
“Leading into last year, we saw a decline in numbers at the club,” Chater said.
“It was hard to rally people to join and have an active role.
“Now we are seen as a strong club in the community and the amount of involvement we are getting from parents is starting to show, our engagement is lifting.”
In 2020, the Rangers are pushing for interest in a potential U14 team.
“Having an U14 team has been hard in the past with a few of the players heading to boarding school and so on,” Chater said.
“We want to get a team in the U14 competition and keep the older kids engaged with the Rangers.
“Soccer has really been embraced here in Moura and parents like it because it doesn't have the rough vibe rugby does for kids.
“That encourages parents to get their kids into competitive sport.”
The Rangers play against Callide United FC, Biloela Valleys FC and the Monto Soccer Club.
Chater said that Rangers prioritised the fun and development of the kids over anything else with winning and losing not a top priority.
“The amount of fun that we’ve seen our younger players have as they learn the game has been really positive,” Chater said.
“It’s a club that has a lot of community about it and it’s very open to anyone new that wants to have a go.
“We don’t take the competitive side overly seriously, it’s about people getting out and trying their best.”
The Rangers field U6, U7, U9 and U12 teams.
Training is on Thursday afternoons after school at the Moura Recreation Grounds.
The season kicks off on March 14.
