Some of Central Queensland’s best BMX riders expected to compete in Biloela next month

CALLIDE Valley BMX Club vice president Ian Hillier is hopeful there will be more than 250 people packing out his club’s track for the Biloela BMX Bash.
Held across the weekend, the event last year drew 125 riders from the mini wheelers’ class through to the highly competitive open men’s and women’s races.
The club’s biggest event on their calendar, Hillier said the Biloela BMX Bash was an ID event, meaning riders hoping to qualify for Nationals needed to accumulate points at this event.
“This is an ID round so I’m expecting we get the same and if not more people to our meet than last year,” Hillier said.
“This is one of the first ID rounds of the year.
“We are so close to the first round of the 2020 BMXA National Championships from March 23-29 so that could also hinder our numbers.”
The racing kicks off on Saturday morning from 10am with the mini wheelers’ class and goes through to the superclass men and women at midday and in the early afternoon.
The superclass men and women will compete for a $1500 and $800 prize pool respectively.
“There’ll be riders from all over Central Queensland as well as former Australian and World representatives at this event,” Hillier said.
“It also promotes the riders within our club.
“The adult events are historically very competitive and high quality.”
Saturday’s racing will wind up in the afternoon after 2pm before riders return on Sunday for a 9am start and for the finals and presentation.
There will be free camping at the event from March 6 with hot showers available.
Canteen will be operating from the evening on March 6, throughout Saturday and breakfast on Sunday.
“We are a small club still growing with about 30-35 members,” Hillier said.
“We are finding our feet again, our club runs on volunteers and without them we don’t hold these meets.”
Registrations for the event close on February 28 for the mini wheelers and sprocket class categories and March 4 for all other classes.
