THE Biloela and Moura Little Athletics Clubs have returned from a very successful performance at the Regional Championships in Rockhampton.

Biloela’s 17 athletes broke 49 personal bests, set two regional records and won 73 medals (39 gold, 24 silver and 10 bronze).

Moura’s seven athletes competed and took home 30 medals (eight gold, nine silver and 13 bronze).

Jodie Goodger from the Biloela Little Athletics Club said her athletes had been rewarded for all their hard work.

Only one team member did not get a medal.

“They all did an awesome job and I know they’ve been doing private training,” Goodger said.

“It’s all paid off for them now.”

The two regional record breakers were Tama Kororiko in the U11 Boys 1100m walk and Emily Authurs in the U17 Girls 300m hurdles with a time of 50.77 secs.

“We’ve been having regional records consistently broken through the years and it’s good to see them doing it again,” Goodger said.

Now the Moura and Biloela clubs will have athletes travelling to Brisbane in March next year to compete at the State Championship.

Biloela had 14 athletes qualify from the Regionals.

“Just about all of them, maybe except two or three haven’t been to State Championships before,” Goodger said.

“It’s a good chance for the kids to run at a good track in a big stadium.

“We do medal at these state events on occasion and it’s the older age groups that have had the success there.”

As an added bonus, the Biloela Little Athletics Club also won the March Past trophy — which is when the team parades behind their banner at the official opening.

“In the middle of the first day of proceedings you get together and march behind your banner with judges there,” Goodger said.

“To my knowledge we’ve never won the Regional March Past which is now fantastic.”
