LEAGUE: Bundaberg's Lachlan Lanskey is hoping this year's Christmas present is a fit and healthy body for next year.
The Brisbane Broncos forward has been selected for an under-20 Queensland State of Origin emerging squad camp next month at Griffith University.
But at the moment he is trying to be ready for it.
A back injury that kept him out for most of this season in the National Youth Competition has flared up again after recent surgery.
"I have a ruptured disk in my back that has affected since round 10 this year,” Lanskey explained.
"There's been a couple of problems with the surgery and I might need to go in again to get it fixed.”
If Lanskey does need surgery it would rule him out of the camp.
"It's not a long turnaround but I would be out for at least six weeks,” he said.
"I'd still be fit for the game (later in the year) but I would miss the camp.”
Thankful the selectors had faith in him Lanskey said it was a shock to be picked again.
"I was in the same camp last year,” he said.
"I'm very pleased to be noticed and picked again.”
Also selected for the camp was Bundaberg and Sydney Roosters U20 player Jesse Marschke.
Friends for a decade Lanskey said it was special for them to be picked.
"It's good to see him picked and rewarded for his grand final win,” he said.
"He played U14 with me for Queensland so I'm glad we get to play again.”
For now though Lanskey just wants to be injury free.
"Next year I'm off contract with the Broncos,” he said.
"I want to show my potential and play football.”
"I want to stick around with the Broncos.”
