GETTING STARTED: Golfers from across Central Queensland will begin their season in Biloela at the Men’s and Mixed Open.

KEEN golfers across the region will converge on the Biloela Golf Club for the Biloela Men’s and Mixed Open.

Held across a weekend in February, the Biloela Men’s and Mixed opens are the first open tournaments held in the Banana Shire for the year.

Biloela Golf Club president Bruce Robson said winners from this event would get points towards being named Golfer of the Year in Central Queensland.

“We try to set the standard for prizing and everything else to keep everybody happy,” Robson said.

“Our best A graders from this event seem to end up in the running to make the Central Queensland team that play in the State Championships later in the year.”

These open events are available for players with an AGU handicap.

The Mixed Open is played over 18 holes in American Foursomes with a total of $400 of prize money up for grabs.

The Men’s Open is played over 28 holes and is a single stroke event.

“There’ll be gross prizes for A, B and C grade, a nett winner and runners-up in each grade,” Robson said.

“The Men’s Open usually draws between 70-100 players and our Mixed event draws around that 30 mark.”

The Men’s Open tees off from 8am February 9, shotgun start and the Mixed Open from 10.30am, shotgun start on February 8.

Cost is $25 per person for the Men’s Open and $15 for the Mixed Open.
