LEAGUE: Darling Downs player Chace Oates wants to one day follow in the footsteps of his cousin and Brisbane Bronco Corey Oates and make it to the top.

But it won't be in the same sport.

The talented five-eighth is competing this week in the Vic Jensen Cup in rugby league for under-11 school students in Bundaberg.

But Oates reveals he has his sights set on dominating rugby union and becoming a Wallaby.

"Yeah, that is my aim," he said.

"I think (the aim is to play) in the Super Rugby."

While the younger Oates doesn't see much of his cousin, he does make sure he catches his games.

"I pretty much watch all of them," he said.

"(I watch to see) his tackling technique and how to get them (players) on the ground."

Oates has been part of a side that has made a strong start to the Cup.

They defeated Sunshine Coast 30-28 yesterday after drawing to Metropolitan Invitational 18-18 on Monday.

Oates was the man of the match in the first contest with fellow Darling Downs player Kain McDougall the recipient yesterday.

"In the first couple of minutes I got the ball out wide, sprinted and scored," McDougall said.

"I did that again sometime in the second half."

McDougall also provided valuable defence for the side.

He said the goal was to now see how far the side could go in the event.

"Mistakes killed us in the second game so we just need to keep our heads up and don't drop our heads down," he said.

Darling Downs trainer Graham McDougall said the main goal for the team was to have fun.

"As long as they are playing footy, enjoying it, and growing that is all that matters."
