For almost 120 years the Bundaberg Rowing club has been the envy of similar organisations across Australia.

Now the club is organising a get together to celebrate its remarkable history.

The Bundaberg Past Rowers and Supporters Association is calling on those who have a link with the famous club or once called it a home from home to attend a special event to be held in Bundaberg in September.

The Association is inviting rowers past and present to a special get together on Saturday, September 2, at the Spotted Dog at Railway Hotel at 87 Perry St North, Bundaberg.

The fun will begin at 5.30pm.

Association secretary Georgina Markwell said the event was a chance to invigorate the interest and re-involvement of the Bundaberg and Wide Bay region’s past rowers.

“Over the decades, our commendable regatta results along with state and national representation of rowers has been the envy of rowing clubs throughout Australia,” Georgina said.

“Our club members have always been dedicated people who share a passion for the sport of rowing.”

The Bundaberg Rowing Club has provided opportunities for the rowing community and individual members to make lasting friendships.

“To continue building unity we are aiming to introduce some fellowship with the Bundaberg Rowing Club.

“This get-together will provide our past rowers and supporters a chance to reconnect with current members and athletes and contribute to the advancement of our sport.”

The association has started a Facebook page where further details can be obtained.

Bundaberg Rowing Club, as we know it today, had its beginnings in November 1905, with a public meeting being held and 100 new members signing-on.

By October 1907, the Bundaberg Rowing Club had twice won the Champions Fours Queensland and were recognised as the premier club of Queensland.
