BILOELA swimmers took away medals against the region’s best at the Central Queensland Sprints in Emerald.
On January 18, 11 swimmers from the gold, silver and bronze Biloela Swimming Club squads walked away with three silvers, a bronze and a number of students gaining state qualification times at the 50m sprints event.
Biloela Swimming Club coach Connor Williams said all the kids and their parents enjoyed the weekend, in and out of the pool in Emerald.
“It’s good to see the kids are hitting their peak towards the end of the season at the right time,” Williams said.
“It’s good to see when, after the kids spend a lot of hours in the pool looking at the black line, they go and get their results.”
Swimmers will travel to Gladstone on Friday afternoon to compete over the weekend as the entire squad aims to achieve state qualifying times.
“We’ve been putting in the hard yards at training as soon as we got back from Emerald,” Williams said.
“Thursday and Friday we will have some easier sessions before we head to Gladstone on Friday afternoon.”
The season wraps up at the end of March with the Central Queensland Championships in Rockhampton and Williams said he was very proud of what his pupils had achieved this season.
“I say to swimmers, I don’t care if you come away with medals, all I want is for you to beat your times,” Williams said.
“Set your goals and try to meet them as best as they can, which most have achieved in earning their state qualification times.”
Tyler Seagrott also competed in Emerald, representing the Caribeae Swimming Club from Rockhampton.
Seagrott picked up a gold medal in the backstroke, freestyle, breastroke and butterfly and also managed to achieve two PBs, shaving four seconds off his previous best swims in the backstroke and butterfly.
