BUNDABERG Central State School has unveiled memories of its rich history after 140 years of service.

School spokeswoman Marie Hillyard said Raymond Taylor had contacted the school to tell them of the work his parents, Joe and Margaret Taylor, had done for the school.

Joe was the president of the P&C from 1964 to about 1978.

His wife was a member of the Ladies' Auxiliary for that time.

"We were excited and keen to acknowledge this in some way," she said

. Raymond Taylor flew from Perth to bring his father back to the school.

Mrs Taylor was unable to travel.

Mr Taylor managed to walk down on to the oval where he unveiled the "Joe and Margaret Taylor Oval" sign.

The school captains, Joey McAlpine and Skye Rossi-Harris, presented him with a school badge.

In November last year the main building on Crofton St, the shelter shed on Maryborough St, the shelter shed on the Woondooma St and the pine trees at the school were heritage listed.

"This excited staff and families and the Heritage Museum idea was born," Mrs Hillyard said.

The storeroom under E Block was converted into a Heritage Museum.

Member for Burnett Stephen Bennett spoke of the heritage of Bundaberg Central and said that it was the only school museum he knew of.
