A GIN Gin resident is calling for community support to bring back the much-loved Wild Scotchman Festival.

A GIN Gin resident is calling for community support to bring back the much-loved Wild Scotchman Festival.

Duncan Yule hopes to revive the event, which has not been held since 2007.

He is currently looking for a committee to help arrange the festival, which celebrates Queensland’s only bushranger, James McPherson, who was captured at Monduran Station on March 30, 1866.

Although McPherson is alleged to have rampaged through the Wide Bay area for nearly four years prior to his arrest, he managed to rob without violence.

He was sentenced to 20 years in jail, served 15, and then became a law-abiding citizen and a well-known part of Gin Gin’s history.

Mr Yule said he hoped to hold the festival in March next year but said he would need plenty of community support to get it going.

“I am hoping to get some like-minded people on a committee so we can start planning it all out,” he said.

“I would like to have it over two or three days with quite a lot of things happening over the time.”
