In a statement, Lifeflight revealed the rescue helicopter was tasked around 7.30am Monday.

The cruise ship changed course and diverted to an area north of Bundaberg, after the woman suffered a cardiac related incident.

The pilot flew to the ship’s location and the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue critical care doctor and Queensland Ambulance Service flight paramedic were winched down to the vessel.

The helicopter hovered nearby for around half an hour, while the medical team treated the woman and prepared her for the airlift.

She was carefully loaded onto a stretcher and winched up to the helicopter, accompanied by the flight doctor.

The paramedic and medical equipment were hoisted separately, before the helicopter returned to the Bundaberg base for refueling.

The woman, aged in her 50s, was flown to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital for further treatment.
