He may well be the Bundaberg region’s most well-known real estate agent and up amongst the proudest grandads.

For 26 years Mr Mackey has dedicated himself to assisting Bundaberg home sellers, buyers and investors.

As an owner of the highly successful RE/MAX Precision office, Mr Mackey can lay claim to many awards and achievements including winning the medium business of the year category in 2006.

He is also a member of the 1980 Initiative – an exclusive mentoring group for the Queensland State of Origin teams.

His dream of working in real estate began when he saw his uncle in action.

“He has a very good lifestyle because he owned real estate,” he said.

Mr Mackey started his journey with a mowing business as well as a stint at clothing store Muscular Arm.

Once he got into real estate, there was no looking back.

The Bundaberg-born husband, father and, new grandfather is still as passionate as when he started.

One of the most important values in business, according to Mr Mackey, is the understanding that everyone in a workplace or team can lead in their own unique way, and that through that, everyone is just as important.

“The leader isn’t the only important person,” he said.

Brent Illingworth - Realway Property Consultants

Brent Illingworth, of RealWay Property Consultants is a self-professed “proud Kepnock school captain class of 2004”, so his time in the region is cemented.

He said leading a school cohort was a lot like being a top real estate agent, principal and business owner.

“It’s more than a popularity contest, it’s about putting others before yourself and always striving to make a positive contribution to the system that was school and now is life,” he said.

“I have always loved working with people since I was a kid – my first job working for my family businesses. Bundy is a wonderful town if you do the right thing by people – they look after you right back.”

Mr Illingworth been a local since the age of nine.

He feels that there’s something special about working in a family based professional business.

Michael and Julie-Anne Vella

They started off as the leaders of Andy’s real estate with five people in a tiny office space.

Now, Michael and Julie-Anne Vella have joined with property giant Harcourts.

The agents say they are closing 30 to 40 sales a month, while three years ago they closed roughly 110 a year.

The past 12 months has seen them triple the old figures with 322 sales closed.

“It’s not just that we’re closing more sales,” Mr Vella said.

“The dollar value is higher.”

The merger with one of Australia’s most well-known real estate brands felt right for the duo amid a thriving market.

“We’ve been an independent agent until now,” Mr Vella said.

“(But) it’s nice to have the backing of a brand.

“We were looking for the backing of quality systems, a larger digital footprint to expose our clients to a larger marketing platform, while creating better training and careers paths for the people we work with.

“We truly have the best people, we wouldn’t swap them for anything else.”

Dale Clarey - Coral Coast Realty

Coral Coast Realty‘s Dale Clarey has been overseeing developments at Moore Park Beach for decades.

Having worked in real estate in the Moore Park region since the 80s, Mr Clarey said he had been involved in the construction of hundreds of houses in the quiet coastal suburb.

Mr Hitzke hopes his new Ray White branch at Bargara can capitalise on those moving to the region in search of a sea change.

He said it was a desire for a lifestyle change that drew him to the industry almost two decades ago.

“I initially bought and sold a few properties through agents and realised I had a real passion for real estate and sales,” he said.

He decided to get his licence and went hunting for an employment opportunity, offering his services as commission-only to get a foot in the door.

Ray White Bargara snapped him up and within six months he was poached by the Bundaberg office.

A long term planner, Mr Hitzke said he is already looking to the future and hopes once established in Bargara he can expand his presence into rural real estate.
