As Bundaberg’s population continues to grow and increasing numbers of people struggle to find long term accommodation, a local company plans to expand and help address that problem.

Bargara Removals has lodged a development application with Bundaberg Regional Council, to expand its warehouse and storage capabilities.

“The severe housing affordability and rental supply crisis is having a devastating impact on people across our state and indeed our region,” the application said.

“The proposed development provides an opportunity to provide a storage option for those unable to find accommodation in a timely manner, whether due to the rental crisis or simply due to lead-in times for construction.”

“The facility would also suit grey nomads who don’t wish to be tied to permanent and expensive RV and retirement parks but who require a safe and convenient location to store personal items.”

The proposal would bring a facelift to the location, with additional storage sheds planned for the Burnett Heads Road business.

The staged development would expand the onsite storage capabilities, along with adding car parks and landscape treatments.

The development and expansions is aimed at providing a storage solution to those who may be on the edge of homeless, and feeling forced to say goodbye to treasured belongings.

“It is noted that many families and individuals find themselves without adequate housing and often are forced to sleep in cars, couch surf and find other means of itinerant accommodation,” the application said.
