Firefighters and neighbours helped battle a bushfire after a blaze on a private property quickly got out of control on Saturday.

The bushfire had sparked a “prepare to leave” warning for parts of Moore Park about 1.10pm.

The impacted area included properties between Malvern Drive, Isaac Moore Drive and Boonyan Rd including Tammy Road and Hannah Court.

Residents were warned conditions could get worse quickly and to be ready to leave immediately.

Emergency services first received the call at 11.20am with reports of a large grass fire.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency spokeswoman said on Saturday afternoon, the fire has been spreading in multiple directions.

Aerial support arrived and extra crews were tasked to the scene which was under control by 2pm.

Speaking at the scene, Bundaberg firefighter Peter Carlson described the emergency response.

“The fire moved fairly quickly through timbered country and through drains between properties so [emergency services] had to go into action fairly quickly,” he said

“We also had a rural strike team from the Sunshine Coast come in to assist our volunteers this weekend, so that allowed us a very quick response.”

Reports from the scene of the blaze indicated the fire began when a resident was burning a small amount of garden waste on his property and the blaze got out of control.

Neighbour to the affected property Gavin McCarthy said he was lucky the wind was taking the fire away from his home.

“It held [here] for a bit and then pushed into those people’s property,” he said

“We did what we could to contain it, we used wet towels along the fence line.”

Emergency services warned residents in bushland areas to be cautious as the hotter months approached.
