Popular Oceanfest event returns to Burnett Heads to shine spotlight on local seafood industry

After being cancelled last year because of Covid, Oceanfest is set to return at the end of this month with live music, market stalls, demonstrations, workshops and of course plenty of the region’s best produce: Here’s what’s on offer.

After the cancellation of last years event, Oceanfest will return to the Bundaberg Port Marina Precinct this month.

The event showcases quality local seafood, produce and beverages, with themed entertainment and a range of ocean-orientated attractions, displays, demonstrations and workshops for all members of the family.

Developed by the Rotary Club of Bundaberg Sunrise, the event will demonstrate how proud the Bundaberg community is of the local seafood industry, tourism industry and the Bundaberg North Burnett area.

Event co-ordinator Glenn Hoffmann said the club members were pleased to be able to bring the event back after being cancelled last year.

“The 2019 event saw over 8000 people through the gates and raised over $22,000 for various local charitable causes and not-for-profit organisations,” he said.

There will be live music, market stalls, and of course plenty of seafood for all.

A menu based on locally caught seafood has been developed so that restaurants, seafood van and stall operators can provide quality food choices to showcase our local fishing industry.

Throughout the venue, a wide range of culinary choices and tastes will be available to enjoy.

Visitors will be able to choose from a variety of locations, including The Marina Marquee, outdoor settings overlooking the Burnett River, Baltimore Restaurant or even bring a picnic blanket and sit on the grassed areas, while savouring their ‘catch of the day’ and looking out over the yachts in the Marina.

The attractions, demonstrations, displays and workshops complementing the seafood experience will be diverse.

Interactive environmental, educational, historical, health, recreational, cultural and tourism themed activities will be on show throughout the day.

Entry to Oceanfest will be a gold coin donation, but for those looking for something a bit special the Marina Marquee seafood luncheon (platters for two) is also available.

Tickets are limited and will be available soon via the Oceanfest website.
