The Police Dive unit alongside Hervey Bay Water Police recovered a vehicle from the Burnett River about 11.30am on Wednesday, October 16, and are asking the public to come forward if they know anything about it.
“Efforts are underway to identify the vehicle which has been submerged for some time,” a police media spokesperson said late on Wednesday.
“Anyone with information is urged to contact police.”
The small, reddish SUV was pulled from the river under the main traffic bridge leading into the Bundaberg CBD just before midday, and police divers could be seen circling the scene in a boat apparently searching for something.
The vehicle was covered in thick mud indicating it had likely been under water for some period of time; a fact confirmed by police later that day.
