Police investigate unlawful entries at South Kolan

One interesting clue could help crack the case in a number of unsolved crimes committed since Christmas in the Bundaberg region.

Police believe a hi-vis shirt may hold the key to solving a string of unsolved crimes in the Bundaberg region town of South Kolan.

The incidents happened on the night of January 14, when a vehicle on Jensen St had its passenger side window smashed to gain entry, triggering the car’s alarm.

The unknown offender stole a handbag after unlocking the vehicle through the broken window, but fled before the victims could see them.

On the same night, two vehicles were unlawfully entered at two properties on Gin Gin Rd, South Kolan.

Both vehicles were unlocked at the time and a number of property items were stolen, including a dash cam, Maui Jim sunglasses and a sum of coins.

While no one has spotted the offender, there is one clue which police believe could help solve the crime: a shirt found dumped on Jensen St, South Kolan.

Bundaberg police say they believe the yellow, hi-vis shirt may have been stolen from the area and used to commit the offences.

Police are seeking assistance from anyone who may have seen suspicious activity around this time, particularly anyone wearing or in possession of a hi-vis shirt.

Bundaberg police are warning residents in rural and residential areas to lock everything and consider installing security cameras.

Make good vehicle and key security a habit by following these steps:

  • Always lock your vehicle, including the boot and sunroof, and remember to fully close all windows.
  • Remove all valuables and personal items when leaving your car unattended, or ensure they are out of sight.
  • Never hide spare keys on or in the vehicle – thieves know where to look.
  • Always keep your keys out of sight and never leave vehicle keys lying around on tables, benches, bedside tables or key hooks.
  • Remove keys from the ignition and lock your vehicle if your vehicle is parked or unattended, even if its only for a minute.
