The family of Pheobe Bishop has announced they will soon close a fundraising campaign launched in her memory, with the $8385 raised to be donated to two Bundaberg-based organisations that supported the teen in life and in death.

In a statement posted to social media, Pheobe’s mother Kylie Johnson said the family had requested letters from Bundaberg SES and YSchool Bundaberg confirming they were happy to receive the funds.

“These will be given to both GoFundMe and [the] Department of Fair Trading for transparency in where the funds are going,” she wrote.

“Bank cheques will be given once the funds are released to the above-mentioned organisations on behalf of Pheobe and our amazing community support.”

Kylie said the transactions would be carried out privately, with some photos shared for transparency.

She said the family would not otherwise speak out during the murder trial as they did not want to jeopardise the justice process.

The fundraiser was set up following the teen’s death in May.

“Pheobe had a gentle soul and a generous spirit — always caring for others and standing up for what was right,” the GoFundMe description reads.

“We want her legacy to live on by paying it forward to the amazing volunteers and community.”
The local State Emergency Service involved in the search for Pheobe when she was first reported missing and YSchool Bundaberg was where she had studied.

The fundraiser had a target of $17,000 and was supported by more than 200 donations.

Pheobe’s housemates, 34-year-old James Wood and 33-year-old Tanika Bromley, have each been charged with one count of murder and two counts of interfering with a corpse.

Police allege the pair murdered Pheobe on May 15 and moved her body multiple times before it was discovered on June 6.

A third person, 30-year-old Kieren Daniel Mittelheuser, was arrested weeks later and charged with two counts of being an accessory after the fact to murder.

Court documents allege Mr Mittelheuser used Pheobe’s mobile phone to mislead investigators and attempted to use her debit card on the day she was reported missing.

He has been charged with fraud, drug possession, driving while disqualified, breaching bail, and failing to appear in court.

All three accused remain in custody and none of them have entered pleas.

Mr Wood and Ms Bromley are due to appear in court again on August 11, while Mr Mittelheuser’s next appearance is listed for August 25.

Pheobe was reported missing from her Bundaberg home on May 15, sparking a major search effort by police and SES volunteers.
Her remains were found more than 50km away three weeks later.
