A man who owns a string of vape shops between Brisbane and Bundaberg has appeared in court, along with his shop assistant.
Hasheem Jamal Al Deleymi was issued with a notice to appear after his shop, Bundaberg Tobacco and Gifts, was raided by police on July 1, 2022.
The store was open for just two weeks before the raid took place.
A number of alleged illicit tobacco products were seized, including 4354 nicotine vapes, 37 assorted bongs and eight ‘category m’ flick knives.
Mr Al Deleymi and his shop assistant, Hamzah Novel Mahri, were both charged with one count each of possessing s4 or s8 medicines or hazardous poisons, possessing utensils or pipes and unlawful possession of weapons.
Addressing Magistrate Edwina Rowan, Mr Al Deleymi said he lived at Albany Creek before asking for an adjournment to get legal advice.
Mr Mahri followed suit, also seeking an adjournment to get legal advice.
They were both placed on bail under their own undertakings.
Their next court appearance is scheduled for August 15 at 9am at the Bundaberg Magistrates Court.
Bundaberg Tobacco and Gifts is not the only vape shop owned by Mr Al Deleymi.
ASIC documents reveal he is also the owner of DBay Tobacconist & Vapes in Deception Bay and Margate Tobacconist & Gifts.
The two stores, as well as the Bundaberg store, became registered businesses on June 6, 2022.
Mr Al Deleymi is also the listed business owner of Sumer Market, a middle eastern grocery store in Caboolture, north of Brisbane.
In April, 2022, Mr Al Deleymi appeared in the Caboolture Magistrates Court on a health regulations charge that a person must not dispense, manufacture, obtain, possess, prescribe, sell or use a regulated poison unless under an approval.
In June, 2022, appeared in the Caboolture Magistrates Court on charges regarding possession of tobacco products.
The two matters have not yet been finalised.
