The former chief executive of a Queensland Indigenous organisation is facing a fresh charge of rape on top of the existing two counts of sexual assault charges.
Kerry Nigel Blackman appeared in Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Friday, June 20, to face the new charge.
Court records reveal the allegations date back several years.
Police say they have been building their case with witness statements, text messages, and other evidence presented at previous hearings.
A spokeswoman for the Bundaberg courthouse confirmed Blackman was granted bail on Friday, allowing him to remain free while the case continues.
Blackman’s next court date is set for a committal mention on August 11, 2025.
The prominent Indigenous leader and former chief executive of the Gidarjil Development Corporation has yet to comment on the serious new charge.
Mr Blackman has not entered a plea for any of his charges.
