Gidarjil CEO Dr Kerry Blackman charged with sexual assault

A prominent Indigenous leader, academic and author has been mentioned in court in Bundaberg on charges of sexual assault.
Gidarjil Development Corporation CEO Dr Kerry Blackman did not enter a plea when he fronted the Bundaberg Magistrates Court on Tuesday, December 3, on two charges of sexual assault.
His matter was mentioned briefly again after being scheduled for committal on January 13 before being adjourned for mention on February 24.
Dr Blackman is widely recognised for his leadership and contributions to Indigenous causes.
His book, Colonisation Through Black Eyes, co-authored with linguist Dr Lysbeth Ford, was launched at the Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery in 2020.
The book, telling local history from an Indigenous perspective, was praised by First Nations people and the broader community.
In addition to his work as an author and community leader, Dr Blackman has been outspoken on national issues.
In 2023, he criticised Opposition Leader Peter Dutton’s stance against the Voice to Parliament referendum.
Dr Blackman has not commented publicly on the charges.
