Dean Phelan Bates pleads guilty to 24 charges in Bundaberg Magistrates Court

A Bundaberg man faces a long list of two dozen charges will have some moved to a higher court, it has been confirmed.

A man facing 24 charges will have to have some of them moved to a higher court, Bundaberg Magistrates Court heard on Monday.

Dean Phelan Bates, who appeared from custody via videolink, had his case adjourned, but stated to Magistrate Edwina Rowan that he wished to plead guilty already.

Mr Bates is facing nine counts of breaching bail, two counts of unauthorised dealing with shop goods (maximum $150), one count of contravening a direction or requirement of police, two counts of failing to appear, three counts of stealing, two counts of entering a premises with intent, one count of possessing utensils, one count of possessing a dangerous drug, one count of trespass and two counts of driving without a licence.

A duty lawyer told the court that some of Mr Bates’ crimes were indictable, and it was heard he was still organising support from Legal Aid.

Bates will return to court for sentencing next month.

He remains in custody.
