Bundaberg police call for witnesses after shock Avoca crash

Police are calling for witnesses and anyone with dashcam or security footage of an incident in Bundaberg on Sunday to come forward. Motorists travelling along Childers Rd who may have seen the van allegedly driving dangerously are also urged to contact police.

Bundaberg Police are calling for witnesses to an alleged dangerous driving incident in Avoca over the weekend in which five people were lucky to escape without serious injury.

Emergency services arrived at the scene of the crash on Takalvan Street at roughly 1:10pm on Sunday, February 4.

Two cars including a 2001 white Ford van had collided on the busy street, causing the van to flip onto its side.

The road was closed while multiple emergency services attended to five people who had been involved in the crash.

Despite the severity of the crash, four people declined transport to hospital and only one person was left with superficial injuries

Upon arrival to the scene, police located a 36-year-old Alloway man with non-life-threatening injuries near the overturned white van.

It is alleged following an altercation, the man was taken into custody and transported to the Bundaberg Hospital.

“He has since been charged with one count each of dangerous driving of a vehicle (adversely affected by an intoxicating substance), drive uninsured, drive unregistered, drive unlicensed, fail to comply with duties of driver involved in crash, obstruct police, and fail to provide specimen of breath or blood,” a police spokesperson said.

“The 36-year-old Alloway man has been denied police bail and is due to appear at Bundaberg Magistrates Court tomorrow, February 5.”

Police will be alleging the car was involved in multiple traffic crashes prior to the rollover on Takalvan Street.

While investigations continue, police are calling for witnesses and anyone with dashcam or security footage of the incident to come forward.”
