Bradley Graham Franks in Bundaberg District Court for supplying meth

A 43-year-old man unknowingly led police to his drug supplier when he thought he was organising a deal with a genuine buyer. See how the operation unfolded.

Australia's Growing Drug Crisis

A “mature man with a relevant history” has avoided spending time behind bars after selling high purity methamphetamine to undercover police officers.

Bradley Graham Franks, 43, faced the District Court in Bundaberg where he pleaded guilty on Tuesday to four counts of supplying a dangerous drug.

The court heard a police operation had begun in May 2018 and a month later, an undercover officer met with a man, who drove him to an address where Franks was waiting.

Franks got in the car and directed them to his dealer.

The officer handed Franks $400 cash and Franks entered the supplier’s house before returning with .959g of substance which was 58.6 per cent methamphetamine.

Future transactions were discussed and police were then able to contact the defendant directly.

On three occasions Franks would take the officer’s cash, walk into the home of his dealer and return with meth.

In all four transactions, Franks supplied a total weight of 3.159g of substance with a high purity of methamphetamine.

On January 15, 2021, Franks was issued with a notice to appear by police.

In sentencing, Judge Katherine McGinness noted Franks was attending Bridges drug and alcohol service.

However, Ms McGinness said there was some concern that Franks’ attempts to rehabilitate had been quite recent.

“You're not a young man, in the sense that youth is not on your side,” she said, while noting the crimes were of a low commerciality level in order to finance his own habit.

“You yourself are a victim of (drugs) in the sense that you've seen how it has adversely affected your life and when you supply to others, you’re just continuing to be a part of the scourge of methamphetamine.”

Franks was sentenced to 18 months in jail for each offence, to be served concurrently but allowed immediate parole.
