Opinion: Stop putting up band aid solutions for flood mitigation
“I am aware that such a large project would cost many millions of dollars... but imagine the financial benefits to the entire region if it could be shown to one and all that Bundaberg is a floodproof city.”

Given what I have read and the fact that Bundaberg is built on a flood plain then the only way to successfully floodproof all of Bundaberg for all time is to proceed with one of the original and best options put forward to the CRG.
Create a large flood diversion channel upstream.
I am aware that such a large project would cost many millions of dollars and this amount of money is not currently available through our governments but imagine the financial benefits to the entire region if it could be shown to one and all that Bundaberg is a floodproof city.
We need some leaders with some foresight and the welfare of the future at heart.
Surely the money for such an expensive but worthwhile project could be borrowed and then repaid over many years.
Bigger projects have been completed in the past so serious consideration should be given to this proposal.
All current and future residents and businesses would benefit enormously forever.
Just imagine no more serious floods ever, for the entire Bundaberg region.
