OPINION: Shame on any party trying to loosen gun laws

I'M CONFUSED by reactions around Pauline Hanson's One Nation and their whole gun scandal.

I'M CONFUSED by reactions around Pauline Hanson's One Nation and their whole gun scandal. I'm confused because, among some, Hanson seems to have become even more of a hero in the wake of recent events.

The PM made the right decision in instructing Liberal MPs to place One Nation last in the upcoming election.

It's a move that Hanson snapped at, saying it meant ScoMo had handed the election to his rival Shorten.

Maybe that's what could come of it. But if that's the case, it means the PM at least has the gumption to put our country's security before his own position.

To me, this goes beyond party politics. Our gun laws are there because they work.

Can you imagine the uproar if this was a Muslim or Chinese-led party attempting these deals overseas? I can.

What makes it worse is the party's "my-dog-ate-my-homework" attempts to cover their tracks, blaming that old scapegoat the media for actions clear as day.

In some of the secret footage released, PHON members are told to use examples of African gang violence and how we could be protected from African gangs if guns were legal.

They do realise then the gangs would have easier access to guns too, right?

From 2001 to 2014, 440,095 people died by firearms on US soil. In the same timeframe, there were 3412 people killed in domestic acts of terrorism.

Guns have no place in our society and never will.
