I AM ashamed of my reticence and have to apologise in some way to my cousins, uncles and brother who were killed in the Second World War for not in my own small way keeping to the mantra that "they died for freedom".

What they believed is so far different to what is happening now and I abjure myself for having kept silent but recent happenings denigrated further their sacrifice and I must show a little belief for what they died for.

The decision to send the children back into concentration camps jolted me out of my apathy on this policy of the government's.

It reminded me of the time when I was a teenager when Pathe News film showed in graphic detail the gate of Auschwitz being opened and all the horrors exposed.

What I found hard to understand was how or why the public didn't know or didn't care about what had happened.

That was until the boat people tried to enter this country.

To ensure that little is known about what is happening to these innocent men, women and children they enact laws preventing people saying anything about what is happening in these camps.

In the '40s the lives of Jews, Gypsies and homosexuals were forfeited by that "solution".

Now the people in our concentration camps forfeit their spirit and their minds as part of our "solution".

I fail to see that as a humane country we can allow this to happen.
