- Genesis 1.27: So God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
Along Walker Street there is an aged care facility which I drive past a few times a week, and wish my son travels nearly every school day as he catches the bus home.
As you go past the aged care facility, take a moment to slow down, and wave. You will not be alone.
There is an older gentleman who usually sits there, watching the traffic, smiling and waving at everyone.
Kids on the bus watches for him, and many of these young teenagers wave back, sharing a moment of joy.
To be clear, there is a gentleman who isn’t working at a job, at least at the moment, who probably doesn’t have a substantial social media presence, who brings joy through the simple but powerful connection of a smile, and his reliable presence.
In life we so often seem to be focused on what you do, what your job is, how busy you are, but scripture reminds us that our essential value comes not in what we do, but rather in who we are.
If we want to increase our value, it does not come through doing more, but rather in being more of what we were created to be, living image bearers of God.
