A community support and vocational training group has unveiled its plans to expand its services, with an eye to establishing an academy-style school in the heart of Bundaberg.

Impact Community Services is seeking the Bundaberg Regional Council’s approval for the expansion, which would provide new space for its special needs school which was running for Year 11 students in 2025, and planned to host Years 10-12 in 2026.

The new expansion would cater for students in Years 5 to 9.

The plans would incorporate two existing offices on the Bargara Rd site, and the repurposing of an existing workshop for office space and storage.

Four new two-storey buildings would be built to serve as the academy’s classrooms and offices.

The developers said in their application they want to be able to accommodate up to 180 new students, and 20 staff.

Parking would be almost doubled from 109 spaces to 189.

The expansion is planned to be built across several stages.

The council has not made a decision on the application.
