Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service Chief Executive Debbie Carroll encouraged locals to visit one of the information booths to learn more about the project.
“Whether you’re a staff member, consumer, carer, visitor or you just have a general interest in the project, it’s an opportunity to ask questions and share feedback,” Ms Carroll said.
“With a lot of the design work occurring behind the scenes with staff and consumers, we felt it important to have a visual presence so the broader community can see how their new hospital is taking shape.
“Not only will the new hospital offer greater capacity to care for many more locally, but it will also provide enhanced access to more specialised services, equipment and technology.
“Let’s also not forget that we’ll also be taking advantage of using part of the existing hospital for some specialist outpatient appointments and day health services that are not urgent.
“We’ve certainly got a healthier future ahead, that’s for sure.”
The new hospital will deliver 320 overnight beds for the Wide Bay region, including medical, surgical, maternity, children’s and mental health treatment facilities.
Wide Bay residents can also expect more emergency department beds, a satellite medical imaging department in the ED, as well as new operating theatres including cardiac catheter lab capability and a larger range of diagnostic services and consult rooms.
The new hospital will support a rooftop helipad, enabling patients to be transferred directly from the roof to the emergency department, intensive care unit or operating theatres.
