Mum's better driver survey reveals

A BRITISH survey has revealed six out of 10 children prefer their mother to be behind the wheel and it seems Bundaberg kids agree.

A BRITISH survey has revealed six out of 10 children prefer their mother to be behind the wheel and it seems Bundaberg kids agree.

Mother Jenny Bujayer said she hoped her kids preferred her driving.

“I drive the most so I hope it is me,” she said.

“I don't think they have any complaints.”

When asked, both of Mrs Bujayer's children said Mum was the best by far.

The survey by the British Guild of Experienced Motorists revealed 70% of children said their mothers enjoyed singing at the top of their lungs while driving, and Mrs Bujayer said she was certainly guilty of this.

“I do like to have a sing-along,” she said.

Another Bundaberg mother, Nene McKinlay, agreed.

“I do love music and having a sing,” she said.

“I think they prefer me as a driver because I'm more responsible,” she joked.

Ms McKinlay's twin boys agreed with her, saying she was their pick for the best driver.

The survey also found mums were less likely to suffer road rage, dodge in and out of traffic and were more considerate to other drivers.

However, the poll also found mums were more likely to stall the car, bump into walls or have difficulty parking.

While primary school student Ceara Lewis said she preferred her dad to drive, she said her mum was still better at driving.

“Dad has the music louder but mum does the speed limit,” Ceara said.

“Mum does get a bit angry with the silly drivers, though.”

The survey also found children believed their fathers drove too fast, were more aggressive and lost their tempers too quickly, but Bundy kids said this was not always limited to dad.

Mother of two Kathryn Hanlon said she preferred to drive but thought her husband was probably the better driver.

“I always drive unless it's long distance,” she said.

“I like driving but I think he is the better driver. I am impatient, though.”

Her children, Chelsea and Zac, said they both preferred their mum to drive even though they said she had a temper.

“Mum usually gets angry behind slow cars,” Zac said.

“I like Mum driving but Dad drives faster,” Chelsea said.

The survey interviewed 1279 children aged five to 16 and more than half said dads often shouted at other drivers and 35% said they were nervous when their dads lost their temper.
