A Malaysian man who had been working towards becoming an Australian citizen was uncovered with a disturbing collection of child exploitation material including of young boys, and girls as young as seven, with adults.

Muhamad Affendi Amberi, 31, pleaded guilty in the Bundaberg District Court on Thursday to one count of possessing child exploitation material following a raid at his Moore Park Beach home on January 9, 2022.

The court heard the farm worker had two phones and one laptop in his bedroom which contained 1777 images regarded as category one in the Interpol baseline standard - meaning they contained real children under the age of 13, involved in or witnessing a sexual act with a focus on their genital region.

He had an additional 144 category two images, which can include children under 16, written or animated child exploitation material.

Amberi also had 280 unique category one videos, some of which showed young boys being sexually assaulted by adults and girls as young as seven involved in sexual acts.

The court heard the defendant made full admissions to police at the time, and was forthcoming about the illegal content on his devices.

Amberi told police he downloaded the content while he was living in Malaysia, before he worked in Singapore as a hotel groundsmen and prior to moving to Australia on a temporary visa.

Judge Michael Burnett sentenced Amberi to an 18-month suspended sentenced to hang over his head for three years.
