A man has been remanded in custody following an alleged tomahawk attack which left a man with serious wounds to his head, torso and hands.
Bundaberg South man Michael Washington, 41, entered no plea and was remanded in custody for a mental health assessment after the alleged random attack at a home in Buchan Court, Bundaberg South, at 4pm on Thursday, September 1, 2022.
Mr Washington is charged with one count of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, one count of common assault and one count of enter dwellings with intent by break while armed.
He is accused of assaulting a man with two tomahawks, causing series wounds to the alleged victim's head, torso and hands.
The alleged victim was not known to Mr Washington prior to the assault and was in a stable condition in hospital on Friday.
Police allege Mr Washington fled the scene after the incident before making his way to Flint Street.
They allege that about 4:15pm, he began acting in an “threatening manner” towards women and teenagers exercising along Flint Street. This included an allegation of “following a woman to her vehicle and assaulting her by striking her with a belt”.
The woman did not require hospitalisation.
