McDonald’s stores closed across Qld

A number of McDonald’s restaurants have been forced to close their doors as part of “contingencies” aimed at dealing with supply shortages.

In the regional Queensland township of Bargara, the McDonald’s store that would normally be buzzing with activity on a Sunday morning was eerily silent.

A sign on the doors and drive-in turnstyles reads “temporarily closed”.

The sign goes on to explain the reason why. The restaurant’s distribution centre was inundated due to extreme weather and closing smaller stores for some time to ensure supply at busier outlets is part of the chain’s contingency plan.

A spokesperson for McDonald’s said the chain had been impacted by weather events and that their distribution centre had been inundated with rain.

“Just like many businesses across Queensland and New South Wales, McDonald’s has been impacted by the extreme weather experienced on the east coast over the last week,” they said.

“Unfortunately, this included our Brisbane distribution centre. We immediately implemented a number of contingencies, however the continued poor weather has meant that some of our restaurants have been temporarily closed or are experiencing product shortages.”

The spokesperson said many Macca’s outlets continued to operate, some 24 hours a day.

“The majority of our restaurants across Queensland remain open and serving our communities,” they said.

“We are working closely with our local licensees and suppliers to re-open impacted restaurants in the coming days.

“The safety and wellbeing of customers, crew and our communities remains our top priority.

“We appreciate customers’ patience and understanding.”

The closed stores will reopen as soon as possible.
