THE 2015 Mayor's Christmas Appeal has been launched with help from the man in red himself.
Each year Bundaberg Regional Council calls on the community to help raise money for families in need with all funds raised distributed through Salvation Army and St Vincent de Paul Society to supply food vouchers, hampers and toys throughout the festive season.
Mayor Mal Forman said he was thrilled to announce some exciting changes to one of the appeal's key events; the Mayoral Christmas Concert.
"We have been lucky enough to secure 2009 Australia's Got Talent winner Mark Vincent to headline this year's Christmas concert," Cr Forman said.
"I have no doubt that having an entertainer of this calibre performing live will generate an increased amount of interest in this fundraising event which will be a fantastic outcome for the charities and our region's disadvantaged families."
Sport, Recreation and Venues portfolio spokesperson Cr Lynne Forgan said Mark would be supported by top local talent from throughout the region.
"While a number of the old favourites will be performing, by thinking outside of the square for this year's concert we have been able to uncover some interesting local talent," Cr Forgan said.
"Some of the highlights include Christmas carol renditions by a beatboxer and an Elvis impersonator.
"We will also have greater audience participation and increased production value to make it the best Mayoral Christmas Concert yet."
Cr Forman urged residents to support the appeal in any way possible.
"The holiday season is a time for joy and spending time with family, however some residents who are struggling under the weight of financial hardship can feel additional strain during this time. The community can support them by participating in any of our Christmas Appeal events or by making a donation at any council service centre, any Bundaberg branch of Auswide Bank or at participating businesses."
Martin Barrett, managing director of Auswide Bank, said it was the 10th year the local banking institution had sponsored the appeal.
"We're delighted to assist a worthy cause that goes directly to those people in our community in need," Mr Barrett said.
Key dates for the 2015 Mayor's Christmas Appeal include:
- The Old Bags Lunch - November 26, noon - 2pm
- Mayoral Christmas Concert - December 6, 1pm - 3.30pm
- Go Christmassy Day - December 18
Tickets for the concert cost $5 per person and can be purchased from the Moncrieff Entertainment Centre, at moncrieff-bundaberg.com.au or by calling 4130 4100.
