Man dies after being pulled from water at Innes Park

EMERGENCY services gave drowning victim 'every chance'.

A DAY at the beach for a group of Korean tourists ended in tragedy when a 22-year-old man drowned in an unpatrolled section of beach at Innes Park.

The man was believed to be swimming with a friend near the inlet of the Innes Park Reserve when he failed to surface, about 11am.

Bundaberg Police Inspector Kev Guteridge said a 000 call came in shortly afterwards, with reports the man was missing in the water.

"Emergency services, AGL Action Rescue Helicopter, Volunteer Marine Rescue and Surf Lifesaving were activated and a search commenced," he said.

The man's unconscious body was spotted by a paramedic about 11.45am, lying face-down in shallow water south of where he was reported missing.

Emergency services swiftly began CPR but, despite every effort to revive the man, he was pronounced dead at 12.12pm.

"Again we see the loss of a life in apparent calm waters in an unpatrolled area of our beaches," Insp Guteridge said.

Advanced Care paramedic Grant Blair said nothing could be done to revive the man, who was believed to have been underwater for about 45 minutes.

"We gave him every chance we could," he said.

"Unfortunately all efforts were unsuccessful."

Surf Lifesaving Queensland Wide Bay Capricorn regional manager Craig Holden said the roving lifeguard was activated to assist in the search, as was the jet ski from Kelly's Beach.

Mr Holden said today's drowning was tragic.

Emergency services could not confirm the exact cause of the man's death, but witnesses told the NewsMail they saw the man dive under the water but he failed to return to the surface.
