The future of a critical community hub in Childers hangs in the balance, with the Coalition promising a $265,000 upgrade to the Isis Cultural Centre if it wins the federal election.
LNP candidate for Hinkler David Batt said this week he had secured the commitment, which will also make the cultural centre fit-for-purpose for years to come.
“The Isis Cultural Centre has a multitude of uses, being the local Evacuation Centre and the Emergency Relief Centre as well as hosting events, meetings and training for sporting clubs, state and high schools,” Mr Batt said.
He said an elected Coalition government would contribute $265,000, with the Isis Cultural Centre funding $35,000 of the project.
The Isis Cultural Centre is managed by the Childers Karate Club.
Club president John Russo said the centre was underutilised when they took it over in 2015 but now was fully booked and used as not just a community facility but a regional meeting hub.
Mr Russo said an upgrade to the amenities block, built in 1978, was their number one priority
Leader of The Nationals David Littleproud said it was important the community had a safe place to go to in times of evacuation and emergency.
