Isis Central Sugar Mill has expanded its commitment to nurturing young local talent by offering scholarships to Indigenous students.

As part of the PCCC Trust Scholarship Program, Jasmine Minniecon, a scholarship awardee, has spent the past month gaining hands-on experience in the Mill’s I.T department.

I.T. Manager Marty Ryan praised the scholarship program, emphasising the mutual benefits for both the company and the student.

“Jasmine’s background and passion for graphic design has produced some excellent work, and it’s been a valuable experience for us and for her,” Mr Ryan said.

Ms Minniecon, who hails from Bundaberg, previously worked in the mining sector before returning to her hometown to study digital design at CQU.

Her internship at the Mill allowed her to gain valuable industry experience, particularly in graphic design, where she has contributed to updating the Isis Mill website.

“I’ve put in the hard yards with my study and I’m committed to advancing my knowledge,” she said.

Isis Central Sugar Mill CEO, Craig Wood, expressed pride in supporting the PCCC Trust program and encouraged other local businesses to do the same, highlighting the importance of offering opportunities to young students interested in diverse career fields, from milling trades to I.T and administration roles.

The program continues to make a positive impact, fostering local talent and providing students like Jasmine with real-world experience that can shape their careers.
