How much Bundaberg Regional Council councillors earn in a year
They’re elected to serve and represent our community, but how much do they earn? Here’s a breakdown of how much Bundaberg’s councillors were paid and the reimbursements they claimed in the past year.

They’re the people elected by locals to represent their communities and they get paid for it.
After recently taking a deep dive into the Wide Bay’s rich list, the NewsMailhas broken down how much our local councillors earn in a year.
According to Bundaberg Regional Council’s annual report the elected members of council were collectively paid more than $1 million for the 2020-21 financial year.
At the top of the council’s earnings is Mayor Jack Dempsey was paid $158,149.78 in remuneration in the last financial year.
Deputy Mayor Bill Trevor was paid $104,027.04.
The rest of the councillors each netted $91,543.33.
Councillor wages are set by the Queensland Independent Remuneration Tribunal, a body established by the State Government.
Details on how much councillors were reimbursed for expenses and the provision of facilities are also included in the report.
Mayor Jack Dempsey was again at the top of the list, having been reimbursed $23,638.87 in the 2020/21 financial year.
Meanwhile, Division 5 councillor Greg Barnes was a close second with a total of $23,470.01.
Not far behind was Division 3’s Wayne Honor who had $22,592.35 returned to him, followed by Jason Bartels who received $22,240.63.
Steve Cooper from Division 8 was reimbursed $21,602.55 and Bill Trevor received $21,534.90.
May Mitchell was reimbursed $20,602.69, while Tracey McPhee followed with $19,721.90 and John Learmonth, $19,642.58.
At the bottom of the reimbursement totals were Vince Habermann who received $10,704.64 and Tanya McLoughlin at $10,430.65.
