UNIVERSITY of Southern Queensland Bundaberg external student David Fulton has been rewarded with a Golden Key International Honour Society membership.
Mr Fulton is one of the top 15% of students to achieve high academic results at USQ through his Bachelor of Engineering Technology studies, which is why he received the invitation-only reward.
USQ Vice-Chancellor and President Jan Thomas also congratulated the USQ Fraser Coast 2014 cohort, saying the University was proud of their achievements.
"These students can be proud they rank among the top 15% of 27,000 students currently studying with USQ at each of its four campuses and by distance education.
"It's an extraordinary achievement," Prof Thomas said.
Golden Key memberships offer students great prospects for their careers, including networking opportunities.
Mr Fulton said he was very excited to be a member of such an elite organisation.
"This recognition means a lot to me as the resources and opportunities that a Golden Key membership provides will help me throughout my career," he said.
"During school I always had an interest in physics and maths and the engineering trade ran in the family.
"I currently work at GHD in Bundaberg so I am constantly gaining on-the-job experience which has helped greatly with my degree."
As an international honour society with more than 400 chapters at colleges and universities around the world, Golden Key is committed to a high standard of scholastic achievement.
With more than two million members, including honoraries such as Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Holocaust survivor and author Elie Wiesel and former US president Bill Clinton, Golden Key carries an esteemed legacy of achievement.
