Having a fundraiser for Haitians

BUNDABERG residents went back in time for a great cause on Friday night.

BUNDABERG residents went back in time for a great cause on Friday night.

About 35 people turned out to a ball to raise funds for the people of tsunami-stricken Haiti.

Event organiser Pamela Browne said while she had hoped for a bigger turnout, the evening was still plenty of fun.

“People really seemed to enjoy themselves,” she said.

The 1940s and 1950s-themed ball saw plenty of time-warped costumes and some great music from that era.

The event, which was held at the Civic Centre, raised about $750 for the cause and Mrs Browne said she was looking forward to donating it.

“I just wanted to contribute something to the people of Haiti,” she said.

“It was such a huge disaster.”

An auction was held halfway through the night with items such as skateboards, massage vouchers and jewellery holders up for grabs, most of which were donated by local businesses.

“The highlight of the night was definitely the auction,” she said.

Event attendee Joe Woodsbey agreed.

“I really liked the auction. We got quite a few things,” he said.

Mr Woodsbey said it was a good evening for a great cause.

“It all turned out really well considering there were only a few there,” he said.
