Taking on a hit from The Angels’, the debut performance of Family Jules is sure to drum up a crowd at Sugarland Tavern on Friday.

With Triple M’s Julia Greenhalf on the drums, the gems set to take the stage alongside her are Chris Castles on the bass and Andy McLucas on guitar and lead vocals.

Jules said they had their first rehearsal at the weekend and it was better than expected.

What started out as a low-key plan to form a band took on a new tune with help from self-appointed band manager and co-host of JB and Jules for Breakfast on Triple M 93.1 Bundy, Justin Bell, who has turned it into a gig on Friday night.

He said the band was coming along “swimmingly”: shirts have been made, buses are coming in from South Kolan and the phone has been ringing off the hook for a spot in the VIP section.

“It’s getting a bit out of control,” he said.

It’s free entry to the Sugarland Tavern with entertainment from Bossman Bedford at 7pm before the band takes the spotlight for 3 minutes at 8pm.

Wazza Wrangell, who sings the JB and Jules jingle, may also make an appearance for a live performance of the theme tune.

The band will be performing ‘Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again’ which was voted for by their listeners.

Jules said while it was a little daunting to be playing in a band again, she was excited to be jamming with fellow musicians.

She said Chris Castles was a chill and laid back bassist who plays multiple genres.

However JB said they’d received a text from McLucas saying “I’ve got some bad news for you”.

Despite the enigmatic ‘bad news’ text, there’s much anticipation building for Friday’s gig.

If you plan on making a night of it with dinner and a show, Jules advised booking a table at the Sugarland Tavern.

You can call the tavern on 4150 5999 to book.
