A 46-year-old interstate truck driver has revealed the moment a Bundaberg driver allegedly intentionally hit him with a car, throwing him up on the hood and then on to the road.

Jae Woodward said it all began when he was driving to town along Bargara Road on January 9, 2023, and he noticed a car driving erratically.

“She overtook us on the left and then got in front of us and braked and slowed right down,” he said.

“She then pulled into the St John’s school driveway and let us pass, so I blew the horn and kept driving. She pulled out immediately behind us and got right up behind us with the car.”

Mr Woodward said he chose to pull over, and when she stopped behind him he got out of his car to speak to the driver of the car.

In that moment, the driver of the car accelerated before hitting Mr Woodward, forcing him up on to the bonnet of the car.

“I travelled 5-10m on the car before falling off, tumbled a couple of times and came to rest on the road,” he said.

His wife Heidi Woodward, who had been travelling with him, rushed to his side, as did the occupants of the car that had been travelling behind the Woodwards.

“Luckily there was a NSW copper behind us and his wife is a (registered) nurse so I was in good hands and all this right in front of my wife,” Mr Woodward said.

Mr Woodward was taken to the Bundaberg Hospital and underwent surgery on Tuesday for a broken tibia in his right leg, which needed to be plated and screwed as a result of the accident.

“Once I fell to the ground, I tried to get up to my knees and that’s when I realised I was in a lot more of a bad way than I first thought,” he said.

“It was the worst pain I’ve ever felt.”

Mr Woodward’s family is now offering a $5000 reward for anyone who can provide information on the vehicle.

“I just hope and pray that we catch (the driver) so she doesn’t do this to somebody else’s family (and) cause more carnage,” he said.
