Plans have been revealed for a new medical practice near Bundaberg’s private and public hospitals which is hoped to help relieve the pressure of the region’s health crisis.
The medical centre and cafe has been proposed for Takalvan St, between Bundaberg Base Hospital and the Friendlies Private Hospital.
The application is being considered by Bundaberg Regional Council.
Town planners Insight SJC lodged the application on behalf of Voxel Holdings, for the clinic and cafe which would offer up to six consult rooms and patients and doctors, as well as a dedicated ambulance bay.
It was proposed for 12 Takalvan St and 1 and 1A Powers St.
The application said the location of the clinic made it ideal for Bundaberg residents.
“In concert with the site’s prominent location on the strategic feeder road to the CBD, it will reinforce Bundaberg as an emerging regional city that can offer high quality medical and allied health services proximate to a vibrant mixed-use environment,” the application said.
The development will draw on “a modern architectural style creating a contemporary and visually attractive built form”, to fit in easily with surrounding buildings.
It said the centre would have up to 15 staff, including three doctors.
The indoor and outdoor dining in the cafe will cater to patients and the staff as well as other visitors.
“Consequently, the proposed building design strikes a balance between regulatory controls, prominent built form, and an ability to meet the anticipated demand for Medical services in the region,” the application said.
There would be 18 car parks provided onsite.
Property records show Voxel Holdings purchased the sites in May, 2022.
