Queensland Health has refused to confirm reports of a Covid-related death in the Gympie region as case numbers continue to rise across the Wide Bay.

Three people are now confirmed to have died in the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health region as of Thursday, January 13, with one death recorded in Queensland Health’s latest updated.

Gympie is part of the SCHHS.

The Gympie Times was contacted late Thursday night with claims of the region’s first Covid-related death.

An SCHHS spokeswoman said patient confidentiality prevented the release of any further information than was provided in the chief health officer’s press conference on Friday.
